Tips to Teach Computer Programming to your Children

In the world of education scenario, coding classes for kids are becoming highly popular, with a large number of parents discarding the old EC activities and even showing their interest in coding programs. Most of the parents, who are already in the coding industry, know the potential growth and demand for skilled programmers. They even introduced coding for kids at a very young age and helped them to learn this new skill.

Moreover, it does not look as cool and exciting as a bicycle, skating, but it can be an interesting, fun learning and rewarding activity for them.

1. Let Them Follow Their Creativity

At a young age, children’s mind acts like a sponge; the more dip it in brilliance, the more it absorbs. They are fast learners, and their creative imagination knows no boundaries, and they even find some of the creative solutions to their problems naturally. Keeping the natural learning ability of children in mind, there are various apps available in the market, which helps them how to code.

2. Keep Yourselves Away from Their Keyboard

As a parent, you should always want to see what your children are doing on the computer. It is a good thing but in this specific situation, when your children are learning computer programming, keep a distance. They might ask you to solve a problem which they are facing. But, it is not good to resolve all of your issue by yourself. You can even help them where to look into, but what to see should be your child’s part. If you resolve anything in which they are working with pressure or struggling, then you are not doing a great part in enhancing their problem-solving skills.

3. Adjust Your Teaching According to Their Age

What could be the right time for your child to learn to code? We say that a 5+ year old child is probably all set to learn how to code. Today, very young children are quite familiar with modern age technologies such as smart TV, mobile, tablets and computers, etc. Also, they have started learning and writing, so they will be able to create via coding. At this point of time, some coding based gaming apps will do the job to give them the idea of the logic behind programming. If you want them to learn a specific programming language, then ‘9+ year’ is the right age to start.

4. Make it Interesting, Knowledgeable and Fun for Your Child

Coding is all about getting the right result. Their interest will be highly doubled when you tell them that they are going to develop a game or application, rather than learning a new language. It is highly easier to teach a kid than adults who already consider it as not their cup of tea. Let them enjoy the coding and laugh with them, with their codes don’t show the desired result. Make it learn and fun and sometimes reward them when they achieve what they desire.

5. Lessen the Use of Technical Jargons

When you join them for coding classes for kids at a younger age, using technical jargon is not going to help them at all. These types of jargons will just fly past straight over their heads. It is essential to teach the basics, but let’s keep the vocabulary at a bit low in the initial phase of learning. If they are younger than a teenager, then you can skip some theories too and give them more practical exposure.

There is no need to be in a dilemma about teaching computer programming to your kid. It is a basic which they will master in little time. You will be highly surprised to see how fast they learn and how keen they are in finding a solution to their problems. Learning to code is a bunch of package that comes with creative thinking, problem-solving skills, and patience that will remain with them for life. Most of the kids are also taking AI classes for kids.
